All those croaker sell for $2-$3 a fish at the bait shops in my area 😂 I’ve seen this video like 15 times over the last like 6 years and I get upset every time I see it, if only I could catch that many croakers so easily haha. Snook candy 😋

What the heck was that, why isn't the bait already in trays? Then you can stack the trays when empty and you'll have more room for shifting gear

Bah, give the people a break. They are having fun, and that's the important thing. I remember thinking that milk came from a milk factory when I was a kid. Most have never seen a shrimp boat, so how are they to know about all the specifics. They learn pretty quickly that shrimping is hard work, but actually fun. If those that try trawling had an awning and a picking box, and a few shrimp rakes, they would love trawling. After pulling the tail a bit to clean it out, turn sideways to pick up the tail from the middle of the boat on the upwind side.. If there is any wind, it will hold everything separated, making working the net easier. Watch out for the little cat fish. You have been warned. The culling box needs to be waist high with at least part of one side removable to the water to make cleaning easier. It needs to be close to the steering so you can steer by leaning against the steering wheel and pick at the same time. If it has a slight angle to the water, small crabs will race toward going back over the side. The trawl towing lines need to be fastened a couple feet above the deck, and forward of the out board motor at least 6 foot. Connections for an awning, anyone ? Otherwise, when you turn, the motor (or propeller) will point at the net center, and NOT turn. If the water is shallow, keep the wheel wash out of the net. If you don't, all you will catch is small fish and trash. And, don't forget the ice chests and fishing poles. Families love it.

Sea gulls are just lazy. Pelicans too. I bet they think of a shrimp boat as their daily welfare check.. that's also tax free and doesn't require a lot of effort... AND, they don't have to put up with an "Uncle Sam" or his income tax BS.

Like in not dissing the rig up but why do you have your bag rope on the fish shoot? You need to put a elephant ear above the fish shoot on the top of the trawl along the seam

& people wonder why fish stocks go down , well there's your answer .. So much dead bycatch for very little shrimp .. If they cared about conserving the resources they would cull out the the live bycatch & get it back in the water to live then pick up the shrimp being the shrimp is what they are after ... But shrimper people don't see anything wrong on what they are doing ...

That cheater line as you call it. Should be tied on the forward end of the bag. (It’s called a lazy line) you don’t want to pull your bag up to the boat like that as a lot of the catch can go out of the bag and up and out of the net. That is not the proper way to tie your bag strap either. You might do well to stop by the shrimp docks and see how the boats have their nets rigged, and get some pointers on how to tie the bag.

    • @RiskyFisk

The fish may look dead but they survive for 15+ minutes without water. These guys are pouring water on them so they will survive a bit longer. Almost all of the bycatch survives or is used for bait/food.
